Review: Pyramid Linking
I usually review sites which are related in some way to blogging but I am going to shift the focus slightly today to review a site which is more closely related to site promotion. I came across todays reviewed site, Pyramid Linking, in a well known webmaster forum and although at first I had no interest, I revisited it a few weeks after its launch.
The basic principle is if you put x amount of links on your site, over time you will get double the number back, hence the pyramid. You sign up for an account, enter your details and it automatically spits out the HTML code you need to place on your link page. Once you have finished that step, you validate that the links are there and you will then be “owed” the double links. On top of that, in an effort to promote the site, if you refer anyone to the program and they add a site, you get an additional five links. There is a basic problem there in that being its a pyramid system, there comes a point when there just aren’t enough sites to keep the older ones happy. You can add to that scenario the fact that people can buy links (I imagine those paying get priority), and that if things slow down too much there could be a mass exodus which will only grow larger and larger.
All of that being said, I am impressed that the owner of Pyramid Linking did put in considerable work on what is a unique and workable idea. If some of the issues are addressed, it could be a successful site long term.
Now to my experience with setting up an account and using Pyramid Linking. The actual setup process was quite intuitive and quick. The only issue I ran into is that in some categories, there seems to be very little screening of the links which you are asked to place in your site. For instance out of the 30 I agreed to place, there was 1 for “P*nis Pills”, 3 for enlarging or shrinking parts of the female anatomy (not the breasts), and one that was simply “http://” (no actual url). They do have a nice option to regenerate the entire code but it doesn’t seem to function. It would be vastly improved if you could report and regenerate individual urls right from that screen. There have also been many complaints of cheating webmasters using orphaned pages or excluded ones. I can’t comment on this aspect yet as I am fairly new to the process.
As far as how many links I have gained, it is still at 0 but as the owner has consistently claimed the links build up slowly, I am going to give it 30 days and re-evaluate it. There is new ownership in the last two weeks so hopefully it provides a boost of energy and most of the concerns are addressed and fixed. I like to see people trying something new rather then recycling the same old templates and ideas so although this review may sound quite negative, I am actually hopeful that this site overcomes its issues and in 30 days time I am writing a completely different review.

I’ve recieved 41 out of 60 owed links. Two of those are from duplicate url’s (where two links are reported as coming from the same url). I too hope that the new owner fixes some of the problems that currently exist and will put up more links as soon as that happens.
A note on the slowness of gaining links is that the higher the pagerank of your linkspage the slower you gain links. My links were on a PR0 page, while most of my links are reported as coming from PR0 pages there are links from pages with up to PR6!

Hi Jason,
As you say there is a new owner of the site (I was the original owner) and they have a good programmer working on improvements as well as some great ideas.
One of the best is a forum on the site for people to discuss improvements and bugs etc. At the moment most of this has been discussed at third party forums like DP.

Can someone explain the potential benefits or dangers of getting those links even if they come from the same url?
